It's true what they say about the "Fighting Irish!" The Notre Dame Quarter Back Tommy Rees kneed a police officer by literally knocking the wind out of him.
It all happened in South Bend, IN where the Notre Dame University is home. Notre Dame's 19- Year Old was at a party on May 3, 2012. It was a party to celbrate the end of the Spring Semester classes. Half of the party spilled out onto the front yard, someone called with a noise complaint and the reast is history.
He is a Lake Bluff, IL native. He is also 6-foot-2, weighing in at 210 pounds. He's a junior at the University, and got slapped with four misdemeanors, just escaping a
felony charge. He was caught rolling around and kneeing a South Bend, IN cop in the gut while trying to escape the wild off-campus party early that morning.
He was caught with a blood alcohol level of .011 when he drop kicked the officer knocking the wind out of him. He then fell to to ground scuffling with the same officer. He was the pepper-sprayed, cuffed, and
arrested. The biggest part of all of this is what it may do to his career. He was scheduled to meet with the head coach Brian Kelly.
He did have an accomplice who was watching his back, so to speak. It was teammate Calos Calbrese, a linebacker from New Jersey. He came to help defend his friend and teammate in what he though was the time of need. Calbrese was alsointoxicated, being tested with a blood alcohol level of .012.
Rees had faced a preliminary charge that would've lead to a felony count of battery on a police officer which he would've had to stay in jail before the
arraignment before a judge. He then accepted the four counts of misdemeanors and was released on a $250 bond.
This is the final verdict: one count of battery, two counts of resisting law enforcement, and one count of illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.
This will be a big deal for Coach Kelly to determine because Rees has been a star player. We'll see what happens!
